As a mentor, I offer a detailed reading of your work and supportive feedback, appropriate to the stage you are at. My aim is to discover where you want to go as a writer and to help you get there. I’m interested in what’s unique to your voice and approach and look forward to reading your work.

I am also the current and a past mentor for the Clydebuilt Verse Apprenticeships, a mentoring scheme for developing poets, established by St Mungo’s Mirrorball and funded by Glasgow Life. The scheme has seen many new poets through to the publication of first collections.

My rates are £50 for up to 200 lines of poetry or for up to 5,000 words of prose. This includes either detailed written feedback or an hour’s one-to one discussion plus notes on your work.

‘A knowledgeable and highly supportive mentor who provides the right balance of encouragement and challenge to develop work in progress. She has an acute eye for detail which helps her identify exactly what is required to unlock the musicality of each line and in doing so allows the poem to realise its full potential.’

‘When I first worked with Gerrie as part of the Clydebuilt mentoring scheme, I had little experience of having my work critiqued. I entered into the whole project with excitement, but not without trepidation. Her guidance helped me improve and develop a lot of poems, and also helped me to approach someone who eventually published my first pamphlet. At group sessions, she brought everyone’s focus together well and fostered an environment of mutual support. Her suggestions for further reading also continue to influence my writing today.’

Gerrie Fellows was my mentor for 12 sessions helping me to put together a collection of poetry. Through her thoughtful, sensitive and sympathetic mentoring, she helped me put together a highly polished collection which I could be proud of. Since then I have found that her help has upped my game and I have become a better editor of my own poems.
